    This represents an improvement in net rating from -18 to -10 since this question was asked in the week prior to the Federal Budget. By gender – 36% (+2) of men approve and 47% (-4) disapprove; 34% (+8) of women approve and 41% (-2) disapprove.

    The Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop was the only politician measured with a positive rating – 47% rated her performance as good and 19% poor. Bill Shorten was the best of the others with a net rating of -5. Clive Palmer’s performance was rated very poorly (-50) while Tony Abbott, Joe Hockey and Christine Milne received similar net ratings.

    Tony Abbott received a net rating of +50 from Liberal/National voters, Bill Shorten scored +42 with Labor voters and Christine Milne scored +36 with Greens voters.

    Among Liberal/National voters Julie Bishop’s net rating was +61 and Joe Hockey’s +35.

    Malcolm Turnbull (+13) received the highest rating while Christopher Pyne (-18), Joe Hockey (-12) and Greg Hunt (-11) receive substantial negative ratings. Respondents were divided over the performance of Julie Bishop (+3), George Brandis (+2) and Scott Morrison (-1). 

    Liberal voters were most approving of Joe Hockey (78% approve), Julie Bishop (74%), Malcolm Turnbull (72%) and Scott Morrison (70%).

    Trust to handle the economy

    33% of Australians most trust Joe Hockey to handle Australia’s economy. 27% most trust Chris Bowen. The largest proportion of Australian’s selected ‘don’t know’ (41%).

    Although Labor voters were more likely to select Chris Bowen (53%), 41% still selected ‘don’t know’.

    Lib/Nat voters were more likely to select Joe Hockey (73%), but 22% still picked ‘don’t know’.

    Green voters were more likely to select Chris Bowen, with the majority (57%) selecting don’t know.
