Overall, trust in media has changed little since this question was asked last year.

The most trusted media by a wide margin were ABC TV news and current affairs (69% a lot/some trust), SBS TV news and current affairs (66%) and ABC radio news and current affairs (62%).

The least trusted were internet blogs (22%) and commercial radio talkback programs (33%).

A majority have little or no trust in the Government (54%), telecommunications companies and internet service providers (63%) and other private companies (70%) to safely store personal data.

35% have no trust.

Labor (57%) and Greens (70%) voters were far more likely to have ‘no trust’. Liberal/National voters were far less likely (2%) to have no trust. 44% of Liberal/National voters have “a lot of trust”.

Since this question was asked in June, those saying they have a lot or some trust has increased by 5% and those saying they have no trust decreased by 6% – a similar position to the poll in November last year.

34% have no trust.

Labor (57%) and Greens (62%) voters were far more likely to have ‘no trust’. Liberal/National voters were far less likely (4%) to have no trust. 38% of Liberal/National voters have “a lot of trust”.

Since this question was asked in November, “total trust” has dropped from 41% to 36%.

Those with highest levels of trust were Liberal/National voters (45%) and people aged 65+ (44%).

Of those who have received financial advice or used a planner, 63% have a lot/some trust and 35% have little/no trust in financial planners.

For those on higher incomes (over $1,600pw), 40% have a lot/some trust and 51% little/no trust.

Since this question was last asked in March last year, there has been a significant decline in trust in the High Court (-17%), the ABC (-16%), the Reserve Bank (-12%), environment groups (-10) and the Federal Parliament (-9). Trust in the High Court, ABC and Reserve Bank is back to similar levels to that recorded in 2012.

Respondents had most trust in the High Court (57%), the ABC (54%), the Reserve Bank (52%) and charitable organisations (45%). They had least trust in political parties (13%), trade unions (22%) and business groups (22%).

Compared to the average, Labor voters had more trust in the ABC (62%), environment groups (41%) and trade unions (34%).

Liberal/National voters, compared to the average, had a little more trust in the Reserve Bank (62%), Federal Parliament (43%), State Parliament (36%) and business groups (32%).
