78% think that workers should get a higher hourly rate for working on weekends and 18% think weekend and weekday rates should be the same.

86% of part-time workers support higher hourly rate for working on weekends. There were no significant differences across income groups.

People do believe in fairness at work and penalty rates are part of that despite the efforts of business and media to start a new debate that penalty rates are something new and over the top-wankers ! Our most vulnerable workers rely on these rates to get a living wage!

One can only wonder at the type of world we would have were there no resistance to those who would welcome a return to WorkChoices. Life in the US gives us an inkling.
