    Anzac Day

    Q. Saturday 25th April is Anzac Day. Which of the following best describes what you will do on Anzac Day?

    23% of respondents said they would attend an Anzac day event and 29% said they would watch the march on TV. 35% said it was just a holiday or were working. These results are much the same as last year’s.

    66% of those aged 55+ said they would be attending an event or watching on TV compared to 41% of those aged under 35. 36% of those aged under 35 say it is just a public holiday.

    13% say they are drinking more alcohol than 3 years ago and 34% are drinking less. 37% say they are drinking about the same.

    Those aged under 35 are more likely to say they are drinking more (16%) while 45% of those aged 35-54 are drinking about the same.

    Measures with most support were more education about responsible drinking (87%), banning alcohol sponsorship of sport (59%), increasing the legal age for consumption of alcohol (57%) and banning alcohol advertising (54%).

    Actions most likely to have been taken to protect privacy were clearing cookies and browser in history (74%), stopped using a website that might be using your information (51%) and setting browser to disable or turning off cookies (50%).

    Pension age

    Only 21% approve of the raising the pension age to 70 years and 69% disapprove. Women (73%) are more likely to disapprove than men (63%). There were not major differences by income.

    32% of respondents said they expected to retire from working before the age of 65, 18% expect to retire at 65 and 18% after the age of 65.

    32% of men and 33% of women expect to retire before the age of 65.

    Of those aged under 35, 44% expect to retire before the age of 65 and 19% expect to work past 65.

    Of those on higher incomes ($1,600+ pw), 37% expect to retire before the age of 65.

    39% expect their superannuation will be their main form of income after retirement and 25% will mainly rely in the age pension. 42% of those aged 55+ expect to rely on the age pension compared to 15% of those aged 18-34.

    Of those on higher incomes ($1,600+ pw), only 13% expect to rely on the age pension – 49% expect superannuation to be their main source of income and 20% said they would rely on other investments.

    The main change since this question was asked in December 2013 was that those who “don’t know” has increased from 12% to 19%.
